Gerunds
A gerund can be considered a verb that has become a noun.
Nouns are used as subjects, subject complements, objects of verbs, and objects of prepositions
The girl is my friend.
That doctor is a girl.
I like the girl.
I wrote a poem to the girl.
I am interested in the girl.

I enjoy this sport.
I enjoy swimming.
I enjoy it.
but swimming can take a complement
swimming with my friends in my private pool at night

 My swimming every day is healthy.
A very healthy sport is swimming.
I love the athlete's swimming.
I am good at swimming.

Active and Passive gerunds

Inviting them to her wedding was a nice gesture.
Being invited to her wedding is an honor.

Having invited them to her wedding made her feel good.
Having been invited to her wedding is a fond memory for them.
