Misunderstandings can best be avoided by paying real attention and by stating things positively.

When do we chang e the tenses in the noun clause?
When it is indirect speech to keep the same meaning
the reporting verb !!!!!


The teacher said, "I feel happy."
The teacher said , " you have to study for the exam on Friday."
The teacher said, " Brenda was absent yesterday."

The teacher said that he felt happy.
The teacher said that we had to study for the exam on Friday.
The teacher said that we had studied for the exam on Friday.   <----- not possible in this context
The teacher said that Brenda had been absent yesterday.
