Subordination (ind clause plus dep clause)
I passed the exam    because/since/as        I studied hard for it.




I went to a party, and I had a lot of fun, and I met a lot of people.
I went to a party, and I had a lot of fun because I met a lot of people.


independent clause 1  (dependent clause a)    coordination       independent clause 2(dependent clause b).

when he comes

When he comes is unknown.  (noun clause because it is the subject of this sentence)
I will call you when he comes.   (it indicates time, so it is an adverb clause of time)
I do not know the time when he comes. (here this clause is modifying the noun time)
