I think Yukiko should/could talk to her brother not to hurt his feelings.
First talk to her brother.
Second , talk to her parents because the parents need to know and change him to another school.
If Yukiko’s brother continues to fight and be absent,
he may need a psychologist (a shrink).
The parents may understand. For teenager it is difficult to talk about his/her feelings.
The parents could consider that they will invite Holly for his birthday .

Class 02/18
Today’s objectives
- TO TALK ABOUT FAMILY TRENDS
- TO DISAGREE politely and strongly
- TO USE quantity expressions
A TREND or TENDENCY: is what is happening around the world, what is fashionable or considered in fashion
All notes taken in class, extra examples, your oral participation transcripts appear on the following website: www.my-class-notes.blogspot.pe
S1: What 3 trends are mentioned on page 50?
S2: Well, the first family trend is about …stay-at-home-mothers. It says that only 28% of mothers stayed at home taking care of the house in the 1960s, but now only 15% of mothers stay at home. This means that the number of stay-at-home mothers has decreased.
S1: Right, another family trend is about the divorce rate. In 1966, 25% of marriages ended in divorce, but now 50% of marriages end in divorce. In conclusion, the divorce rate has increased.
S2: The last one is about kids moving back home. In 1970, 10% of these people moved back with their parents, but today 60% move back home. To sum up, the rate has increased dramatically.
How to explain statistical information.
Step 1. Describe what you see. Be careful, do not mention anything that is not in the figure.
Step 2. Interpretation. Make a conclusion.
There are definitely problems at home between parents and their kids. When a father gets upset, he nags the kids.
unfair (not equal, partial) vs fair (equal, impartial)
She wants to go to a concert , but the father does not want her to go because it is late at night, and she has school the next day.
I agree with …with the father because ……
I agree with the father because it is going to be very late and the streets are dangerous.
